Course Description
Live Your Yoga. Teachings On How to Become A Better Teacher.
Introducing a 3 Part Series over the course of 1 year that gives you the opportunity to delve more deeply into your yogic studies with the particular books adored by all yogis and the time to do so.
Each Immersion focuses on 1 theme over consecutive days. Much like going on a retreat and training in 1, you will be required to read this book for our group discussions. Along with dharma, all series will have meditations, mantras, yoga class, anatomy teachings & pranayama sessions based off of the dharma.
Each Immersion Series is 36 hours total over the course of consecutive days.
*Attending all 3 Modules Qualifies you for an Advanced Swan River Yoga Teacher Certificate or do any 1 Module for your own education and growth if you are not interested in certifications but desire retreat times to immerse.
Part 1: Yoga Sutras & Hatha Yoga Pradipika Keith Porteous and Thomas Sims
Part 2: Bhagavad Gita, Advancing Asanas & Yin Yoga Tim Vanderkamp and JackSun SLaughter
Part 3: Bhakti Sutras & Wellness Alchemy Kelly Haas and Michelle Baker
*Attending all 3 Modules Qualifies you for an Advanced Swan River Yoga Teacher Certificate with 108 hours or do any 1 Module for your own education and growth. “Advanced Swan River Yoga Teachers” are often considered for leading workshops!
Swan River Yoga Open classes with an exploration of asanas prescribed by the HYP. Including one special class inspired by the story of Matseyendra, who is credited as the first earthling yoga teacher giving the world the teachings of the HYP.
An exploration of pranayama (breathing exercises), mudras (symbolic gestures), and postures for meditation practice as suggested by the HYP. These techniques can empower the yogi through gaining control of one’s subtle energy.
Discussion on chakras, bandhas, shakti, and kundalini, as pertaining to the HYP.
Nada Yoga and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Meditations on the Nadam.
Karma, Kleshas and Why We Do the Things We Do: the nature of habit and mental health as seen through the Yoga Sutras
From self to Self: Awakening from a case of mistaken identity. Learn to deconstruct mental traps, to get out of one’s own way and to journey towards the Self.
Navigate the path, from first steps to freedom. Identify and work with obstacles, handle achievements responsibly, and summon the unfailing support you need
Construct effective dharma talks using the Yoga Sutras: A roadmap through Patanjali’s masterpiece with breakdowns of easily-applicable sections relevant to daily life.
Tune-In: Sung recitation of key sutras from all four books to entrain our ears to receive the right teachings at the right times from the manual of life.
Practicum on Hands-on Assists
The Teachings
Michelle Baker will offer:
Prolonged discussions and recitation of The Bhagavad Gita, Sanskrit Course, In-depth Ayurvedic Counseling, Advanced Art of Hands On Assists and Subtle Body/ Energetic Clearing techniques, Yoga Nidra training, giving proper Sacred Ceremonies and pujas from India, Advanced Mantras, Harmonium practicum, Ethics of Teacher/student relationships, Guru and In-dependence.
Thomas Sims will offer:
Assistance in Advanced Art of Assists, introduction to more advanced poses not as common in an open level class, Advanced asana practice.
Keith Porteous will offer:
In-depth discussion of key yoga sutras, meditation and visualization, chanting of all 4 books, an understanding of how all 4 books work together, and a daily journal practice (based on the yamas and niyamas) which applies to all areas of daily life.
Jackson Slaughter will offer:
How to give compelling dharma talks, in-depth discussion of the importance of Seva, selfless service and dharma in the community. Creative Art of Sequencing suggestions and play to make your classes more dynamic, playful and fun.
Kelly Haas will offer:
In-depth specifics on how to lead a skillful, safe and well articulated Beginners Class
All Teachers will offer:
Their translation, influences, transmissions, realizations & experiences of the word “Guru”.

1. The Bhagavad Gita Eknath Easwaran
2. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali Barbara Stoler Miller
Required Reading (for lecture content):
1. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Swami Satchidananda (recommended for the Sanskrit content by Keith)
2. Hatha Yoga Pradipika BKS Iyengar Or Bihar
Required homework:
One 3-page, 10-font single space on each of the books as well as a paper on the topic of “Guru” and what it means to you.
Note: *This course makes you eligible for being a mentor at Swan River Yoga and joining the Swan Mentorship Program if you have a prior 200-hour certificate & complete this course.
Who is eligible for this course?
Any student that has completed any 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training anywhere is eligible for this course. Please submit proof of your completion of certification to Deb@swanriveryoga.com.

Required Deposit: $200.
Per 36 hour Immersion: $565.
(Can be paid it 2 installations. 1 deposit of $283 prior and 1 final payment of $283 ON the day the Series begins.)
3 Part Series Payment: (*then eligible for Certification)
Pay for 108 hours altogether: $1,500 ($200 off)
(Can be paid it 2 installations. 1 deposit of $750 prior and 1 final payment of $750 ON the day Series 1 begins.)
