9/13 - Release the Voice: Warm-Up the Instrument, 10/18 - Release the Voice: Sound in Motion, 11/14 - Release the Voice: Therapeutic Singing
How does yoga practice support communication? Release the Voice is a program of gentle movement and guided vocal exercises to empower students to explore their voices, whether used for speech or singing. Through practice during sessions and at home, students will find greater health and expression in the use of the voice as an instrument. This course is a Swan River Yoga original.
Each session will shine a light on the foundational ‘mechanics’ of vocal production, taking the mystery out of singing and offering practices that build strength and flexibility.
Translated as “locks,” the bandhas are muscle groupings that allow us to stabilize from deep within. Although the translation “lock” brings up the image of stopping or holding, the bandhas create a subtle network that allows us to direct blood flow and energy with greater vigor. The bandhas can bring greater stability to our Asana practice, but they can also provide a way to harness energy, improve focus and concentration, and even improve circulation and vital organ function. In this workshop we will discuss the major and minor bandhas and the benefits of integrating them into our practice.
Bridge 1 centers on dharma—the written teachings that illuminate the human experience and guide us on the path. This course combines study of a contemporary, accessible text with selected passages from Master Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Through a blend of in-person and virtual sessions, we’ll explore how these teachings remain alive and relevant in our everyday lives.
Successful completion of the course provides 40 Continuing Education Hourswith Yoga Alliance.
